Centre monitoring flood situation in Arunachal & other NE states

Itanagar, Jun 14: The Centre is keeping a close watch over the flood situation in Arunachal and other the north-eastern states and is ready to offer all necessary help.

"The home ministry is constantly monitoring the heavy flood situations in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and other states for necessary help," Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju told reporters at New Delhi.

The minister said the home ministry control room is monitoring the severe landslides and floods in the north-eastern states round the clock.

It is reported that, heavy and incessant rain has battered West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh for last few days with multiple landslides in Bomdila, Dirang, Singchung, Nafra and Kalaktang subdivisions, resulting in traffic blockade, disruption in power and water supply and major damages to private and public property. There has been abnormal rise in water level reaching danger zones in rivers and streams of Dirang, Tenga and Rupa areas.

Reportedly, the district water supply source at Mandala has been damaged and Hydel stations have been badly damaged.

The West Kameng Deputy Commissioner had put all admin outposts on 24x7 alert and night police patrolling enforced along river side as well as hourly reporting to the DC from all outposts.

According to PTI report, in Mizoram, eight people were killed and six went missing in floods triggered by heavy rainfall in Mizoram.

Guwahati also witnessed massive water-logging due to incessant rains, while landslides occurred at three places in the state capital. (PTI/ ATNS)

NHM contractual employees call off strike

ITANAGAR, Jun 15: The Arunachal Pradesh NHM Employees' Association (APNHMEA) on Wednesday called off its second phase of the on-going pen-down strike with immediate effect following a verbal assurance from Health & Family Welfare Minister Jomde Kena that he would hold necessary parleys with the authorities concerned on the issue in order to find a durable solution.

The Association, however, stated that it would resume the stir if the department remains non-committal on the issue.

The Minister, while appealing to the employees to immediately go back to work, assured that he would discuss with the Chief Minister on the issue in order to find a durable solution.

According to a release from Dr R Dodum, MPH, Nodal Officer (National Urban Health Mission), Kena has directed both the Commissioner (Health & FW) and Mission Director (NHM), Government of Arunachal Pradesh to look into the matter immediately and also hold talks with the employees' association on the matter.

The Health & FW Minister also had a telephonic talk with the president of the Association and requested to call off the strike for the betterment of the Health Department as well as the state, to which the president agreed.

Kena has convinced the Association and requested them to join their duties immediately as the NHM programme is being hampered; directly or indirectly affecting the health system of the state.

Gujarat textbook blunder bringing shame to India: Cong

ITANAGAR, Jun 14: The blunder in a Gujarat government school textbook referring to Jesus Christ as 'haivaan' (devil) has brought shame to India, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Takam Sanjoy said today.

This was particularly shameful as Gujarat was the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Ballav Bhai Patel and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sanjoy told PTI.

He called for immediate remedial steps to assuage the hurt sentiment of Indians, particularly the Christian community.

The class IX Hindi language textbook published by the Gujarat State School Textbook Board has used 'haivaan' (devil) before Jesus Christ, instead of the intended word 'bhagwan' (God) in one of its chapters, which triggered protests from Christians.

The board has removed the controversial word in the online version of the book available on its website.

Sanjoy also lauded Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh Governor P B Acharya for writing to his Gujarat counterpart Om Prakash Kohli about this issue. PTI

Inter-valley Bile-Migging road to be complete soon

YINGKIONG, Jun 14: Border Roads Organization Project Brahmank, Chief Engineer, Brigadier C C Jeleel, who recently inspected the inter-valley Bile-Migging road, which connects Siyom valley with Siang valley, informed that the road from Migging end has been completed up to 22 KM of the 38 KM sanctioned.

Brigadier C C Jeleel emphasized on the quality of construction, particularly on stringent geometric standards and urged ground executives to put in their best.

He also inspected ongoing road double-lane works at Bame-Baser stretch in West Siang district. Bale-Migging is an important strategic road, which in being constructed by 761 BRTF.

Commander of 761 BRTF, SK Pradhan, who accompanied Brigadier Jaleel, informed that work on double laning of Tuting-Migging road will commence soon. He further said that alignment is being finalized for the other crucial inter-valley road Dumro-Same Basti-Etaliyen connecting Siang valley with Dibang valley and DPR would also be prepared soon. Taga visits Tippi industrial area

BHALUKPONG, Jun 14: Industry and Power Minister, Tamiyo Taga is on a two-day visit to the industrial area of Tippi near Bhalukpong in West Kameng district to explore the possibilities to extend its success story to Niglok in East Siang district and other parts of the state so that more employment opportunities are provided to the unemployed youths of the state.

The minister also interacted with the officials of the Power Department and took stock of the power scenario of West Kameng aftermath of the recent landslides in various parts of the district. He requested them to ensure restoration of uninterrupted power supply at the earliest.

Taga was accompanied, among others, by local MLA cum PHE Parliamentary Secretary, Kumsi Sidisow, Industry Commissioner, Tahung Taggu, and state BJP ST Morcha President Tachu Hinium during his visit.

Changlang PWD EE clarifies

ITANAGAR, Jun 14: Clarifying over the news item 'Poor implementation of SPA schemes in Changlang' published in this daily on June 13 last, Changlang PW Division, Executive Engineer on Wednesday, stated that the two schemes under SPA were implemented as per the BOQ of the agreement.

The EE, while denying the allegation further said that the two projects under SPA scheme were completed in 2013-14, much before his term in the office, and therefore, the question of fund misappropriation does not arise.

Combined annual training camp of NCC begins

ITANAGAR, Jun 14: The 10 days Combined Annual Training Camp of NCC was inaugurated on Wednesday at Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic with the participation of more than 500 cadets.

Inaugurating the training camp, Director Higher & Technical Education, Dr Tayek Talom said that one who joins NCC learns discipline, unity, commitment for national integration and self defence.

Elaborating his association with the NCC during his student days, Dr Talom said that the NCC has taught him discipline and sincerity in life.

He said that two NCC cadets from Arunachal who had excelled with their performances were selected for the Indian Air force and Navy, and after their special training they will be ready to serve the nation as flight officer and lieutenant, which is a proud moment for the NCC.

He said the certificates obtained after lot of training is beneficial for the cadets.

The NCC is the second line of defence, and during emergencies; NCC officers and cadets are called for their services. NCC cadets also serve the nation during natural calamities, said Dr Talom.

He further appealed to the cadets to be sincere, honest and patriotic towards their motherland and also to concentrate in their academic activities apart from participating in NCC and other games and sports activities.

Commanding Officer (AP Battalion, NCC) Lt Colonel N K Bishnoi; Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic (RGGP) Principal, Dr A K Tripathy and RGGP CTO Palvinder Singh also addressed the gathering.

Cadets from AP Battalion, NCC, Naharlagun, 5 Assam Battalion, Tezpur, 8 Assam Battalion, Nagoan, 72 Assam Girls Company, North Lakhimpur, 73 Assam girls company, Tezpur and more than 500 cadets apart from officials from different schools and colleges and trainees from NCC and army wings are participating in the training, which will conclude on June 22 next.

CCDFT: Easy wins for Nyimr Yaru and BMSCV

ITANGAR, Jun 14: The Nyimr Yaru FC registered a facile victory over R T United FC in a league level match of the Capital Complex Dree Football Tournament (CCDFT) at DN Government College playground here on Wednesday.

Duyu Takung scored two goals in each half, while Mudang Huto scored the fifth goal.

Later, Mudang was named 'Hero of the Match'.

In veteran category, Bumer Memorial School Veteran FC beat Senior FC 5-0 to register its third consecutive win in the tournament.

Koj Tatung put Bumer Memorial School Veteran team ahead by scoring in just two minutes. He doubled the lead in 8th minute before Rubu Tajung (22 min) made it 3-0 at halftime.

The second half saw Senior FC toiling hard to find the equalizers, but failed to score.

On the other hand, Bumer Memorial School Veteran team netted the fourth goal (41st min), further piling up miseries on their opponent. Koj Tatung did not miss the free kick taken from just outside the penalty area. The fifth goal was scored by Captain Pura Talo in 68th minute.

Gyati Opo of Bumer Memorial School Veteran team was chosen as 'Hero of the Match'.

Service XI FC will take on Tajung Tana FC in open category in the first match on Thursday, and in Veteran category, Khonghung FC will be up against Patw FC.

In Golden Jubilee Central Dree Football Tournament at Ziro, Diibo Sports Club (DSC), riding on Koj Tarung's hat-trick, beat Dolo Mando Football Club (DMFC) 3-0 in a group (C) level match.

Koj scored in 8th, 66th and 70th minutes to complete his hat-trick.

In the second match of the day, the All Hija Sports Association-A defeated Birang Tajang Club 4-0.

Kago Ajam (13thmin), Kime Dokho (28th min) and Nada Tamo (39th and 74th mins) were the scorers.

Rural mart inaugurated in Roing

Roing, Jun 14: A rural mart was inaugurated at Cheta II, Roing, Lower Dibang Valley district on Wednesday by NABARD General Manager, Dr Gyanendra Mani in presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner Cheshta Yadav.

The rural mart has been sanctioned to Lambo SHG, promoted by the NGO AMYAA and sponsored by NABARD to encourage and assist rural artisans and weavers to sell their products and become self sustainable.

The rent and salaries of the employees of the mart will initially be borne by NABARD for two years till the weavers are able to become self-sufficient.

Addressing the weavers and members of different SHGs during its inaugural session, the NABARD General Manager said, "There is no dearth of artistic weavers in the state and the entire Northeast. The intricate designs and patterns of our weavers are the cynosure at various craft melas and exhibitions across the country. However, guidance is required for the artisans to mould and recreate the dresses with the local patterns as per requirement and demand of the markets outside."

He assured to conduct trainings in this regard.

ADC Yadav said the products of all the weavers should be streamlined and given publicity so that the same can gain market in metros, like Delhi and Mumbai. She urged the members of the SHGs to showcase their products in the District Emporium of the Textile Department and assured to give all possible help from the administration

Later, Dr Mani interacted with the members of SHGs and farmers' clubs of Lower Dibang Valley at Mayu II.

He encouraged the SHGs and farmers' clubs to adopt cluster approach for taking any of the activity and participate in national level melas and exhibitions from time to time. He assured of all possible support to the SHGs and farmers' clubs in the district from NABARD.

The General Manager of NABARD was accompanied by DDMs Nitya Mili and Kamal Roy, Dr Ramesha, PC, KVK Roing, G K Deori, BM APRB, A Apum, BM APSCAB, N Pertin, Textile & Handloom Officer and R K Paul Chawang, Secretary AMYAA.

Meeting held to review biometric enrolment process

SEPPA, Jun 14: A meeting to review the status of biometric enrolment in East Kameng district was convened on Wednesday by East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Takuk.

Enquiring about the achievement, latest position, on-boarding, and number of people making foray for BME, the DC directed the department in-charge to record all the issues being confronted by the nodal agencies. He further directed to procure necessary inventories, such as compatible laptops, stationery items, etc and distribute the same to all BME centres in requirement.

Acknowledging that the BME programme is an ongoing and continuous process and therefore, it is hard to attain 100 percent achievement, the DC advised the nodal agencies not to be bothered with cent percent outcome and instead urged them to go the extra mile to cover as many people as possible so that people could seamlessly avail the Aadhar-linked social welfare benefits of the government.

Keeping in view the hectic schedule of teaching fraternity, the DC suggested the DDSE to keep out some specific days for teachers for the BME process. He further suggested the officials present to conduct special camps for people in far-flung areas.

In order to generate wide publicity regarding last date of ongoing BME campaign for the left-out population, the DC suggested the DSO (Stats) in-charge to publish a circular in local dailies and circulate the same to all stakeholders as soon as possible.

Briefing the house about the purpose of the meeting, CO cum DSO (Stats) in-charge Taya Yullo advised all the officials to maintain privacy of the Aadhaar information of individuals. She also requested them for timely submission of information on BME pertaining to their respective centres for corrective and comprehensive compilation of data. (DIPRO)

DC convenes coordination meeting

Khonsa, Jun 14: Appalled by the recent CBSE results of class X and XII of Tirap district, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Jha convened a district level coordination meeting of the Education Department on Wednesday.

The Tirap DC informed that zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against irregular teachers. The DC also emphasized on maintaining minimum 75 percent attendance of students to improve quality of education, and also stressed on development of leadership quality among the principals and headmasters for good administration in the school. The meeting was attended by various principals, headmasters and the Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE).

Khada and lungta dargyang manufacturing training begins in Bomdila

BOMDILA, Jun 14: West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop recently launched the month-long BADP training in khada and lungta dargyang manufacturing within the district.

The district uses these items on auspicious occasions and ceremonies, but they are mostly brought in from other places, like Darjeeling, Kalimpong or Sikkim, with a business turnout of over Rs 5 crores annually.

In order to make the district more self reliant, and earn through entrepreneurship, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Swaroop and DDTH Dorjee Phuntso initiated the training to harvest the potential of the district's weavers and to bring down the cost of khada and lungta in the area.

On recommendations of the Kalimpong DC, entrepreneur Anjani Kumar Agarwal is the master trainer, who will impart training to 20 youths each from Dirang and Rupa - Kalaktang.

The DC also elaborated on how the initiative can be later combined along with the PM's Stand Up India, and the CM's Swalamban Yojna and Bunkar Yojana.

Blood donation camp at Tawang

TAWANG, Jun 14: A voluntary blood donation camp was organized on the occasion of World Blood Donor day with the theme ' Give blood, Give now and Give often' at Tawang Blood Bank on Wednesday.

Total 13 units of blood were collected as per the requirement of the Tawang district. Many youths under the banner of Tawang District Student Union and nurses of District Hospital came forward for the noble cause.

The Tawang Blood Bank, which has been made fully functional since March 2017 has catered to several emergency medical cases, informed Blood Bank Officer in-charge, Dr Tenzin Gyaltsen. He also highlighted the benefit of blood donation and appreciated all blood donors for their noble gesture. (DIPRO)

Weeklong yoga classes

Hawai, Jun 14: A one week free course on yoga was launched on Wednesday at Circuit House, Hawai in an effort to spread the message of benefits of yoga to the public.

Deputy Commissioner, M Riba in her message asked people to inculcate the practice of yoga and asked them to actively participate in the camp as well as in the International Yoga Day. Young Practitioner Brena Kri, recipient of District Award from Deputy Commissioner, Anjaw for conducting a free two-month yoga camp, is leading the camp as yoga teacher. Similar activities are being organized at Hayuliang Sub-Division for International Yoga Day.

City BJP demands police to check cars with tinted films

ITANAGAR, Jun 14: Concerned over increasing number of cars with black films on windows and without registration plates in the Capital Complex and adjoining areas, the City unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urged the City Police and District Magistrate to conduct random checking of such cars and peel off the tinted glasses, which are beyond the permissible limit.

It appealed to the general public and all motorists to cooperate with the police and administration during checks in the greater interest of the capital dwellers as criminals might use such cars to commit crimes and anti-social activities.

'Direct deptts to conduct DPC every 6 months'

ITANAGAR, Jun 14: In a representation to the state Chief Secretary, the All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) on Wednesday, appealed to her to direct all heads of departments of the state to conduct Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) every six months in order to streamline regularization and promotion of employees in their respective departments.

'Despite state cabinet's approval for conducting DPC every six months, various departments are yet to implement the same', claimed the AAPLU.

Awareness created on Chief Minister's flagship prog at Kimin

KIMIN Jun 14: An awareness programme on Chief Minister's flagship programmes was conducted at the conference hall of SDO on Wednesday, which was attended by Kimin EAC in-charge SDO, J Padung, Anchal Chairperson, officials of line department, PRI members, HGBs, members of NGOs and self help groups, besides general public.

Nothing is impossible, says Everester Anshu

ITANAGAR, Jun 14: Everester Anshu Jamsenpa returned to Arunachal Pradesh recently and was accorded a befitting reception on her homecoming by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs on Wednesday.

Addressing school children in particular, who were also present in the function, she said that there were many people who tried to demotivate her but she did not lose hope. "Don't be discouraged and focus on your goals as nothing is impossible", the mountaineer said.

Thanking all her supporters, well wishers and sponsors for all the support and prayers, Anshu termed her double ascent of Mt Everest as a much anticipated one, but something which took a long time coming.

Anshu was of the opinion that if the state government comes up with a mountaineering policy, then Arunachal Pradesh would go a long way in earning a lot of revenue.

Parliamentary Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs, Nyamar Karbak congratulated Anshu for her achievement and for highlighting the state's name in the international arena.

"You (Anshu) are our asset and the feat that you have pulled off is not only special, but at the same time commendable beyond words," said Karbak further calling upon the youths, especially girls to take the Everester as a role model.

Karbak also disclosed that there are almost 200 vacant posts in the Police Department and preference would be given to sportspersons for the same.

Arunachal's first Everester, Tapi Mra also appealed to the government and authorities concerned to sincerely promote adventure sports and tourism in the state and at the same time also support the other Everesters whose names have been forgotten with time.

Anshu's husband and All Arunachal Pradesh Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association President Tsering Wange informed that they have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his help formulating a national sports policy for mountaineering and adventure sports in India.

Anshu, a mother of two, who hails from Bomdila, the headquarters of West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh on May 22 last became the world's first woman to scale Mt Everest twice in five days. The ace mountaineer's double ascent of the world's highest peak was her fifth overall, and the second after May 16.

Hospitality should be maintained to improve tourism: DC

TAWANG, Jun 14: In a bid to develop and enhance tourism potential in the district, Tawang Deputy Commissioner Sang Phuntsok convened a meeting on Wednesday, involving stakeholders, like hoteliers, taxi union and tour operators of the district and appealed to all stakeholders to strive towards making the district one of the most sought after tourist destinations.

Reiterating on the importance of customer service in the tourism sector, the DC said that sanctity of the region, which has been known for its hospitality is to be maintained at all costs, and requested everyone to refrain from indulging in any activity that is uncalled for.

The DC also advised the stakeholders to explore and introduce new tourist attractions, adding that the district administration would extend its full cooperation in it. He also directed that taxi fares to various destinations be displayed at prominent places in the interest of tourists.

SP Tawang M K Meena exhorted that drivers, hoteliers, shopkeepers, tour operators are the face of the business and should work hand in hand to make the region tourist-friendly and send across a positive message about the place. He also stressed on commercial registration of the vehicles used for tourism activities.

The Tawang DSP requested for maintaining area of operation and timely reporting of the arrival of foreign tourists at the FRRO's office (DIPRO).

Tato qualifies for PhD degree

ITANAGAR, Jun 14: Yater Tato has qualified for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics from North Eastern Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) for her thesis titled, "Study on General Classes of Estimators for Estimating Population Mean in Sample Surveys in Presence of Non-response".

Dr Tato conducted her thesis under the supervision of Dr B K Gosh, Department of Mathematics, NERIST. The PhD degree in Mathematics will be awarded to Tato at the next convocation of the institute, according to a NERIST notification, dated March 7 last.

Accordingly, it is claimed that Tato is the first PhD degree holder in Mathematics from the state.

Earlier, a news item was published in this daily on June 6 stating that Taja Yaying had become the first PhD holder from the state in Mathematics from RGU.

According to the notifications, Tato was declared qualified for the PhD in March 7, 2017, while Yaying was declared qualified for the PhD on May 9, 2017.

Training for smart classroom teachers held

Itanagar, Jun 14: A two days computer training programme for smart classroom teachers was organized at Rijo Conference Hall on June 13 and 14.

Experts from EdCIL (India) Limited, Noida imparted training to 70 teachers from 35 schools in the district.

Deputy Commissioner A K Singh, who inaugurated the training programme, briefed the concept of smart classrooms, which are enhanced with technological equipment for the purpose of better teaching. He advised the teachers to get acquainted with the modern technology as per the demand and requirement.

Upper Subansiri DDSE, Tape Jeram highlighted the aim and objective of the programme and said using technology in classrooms would improve the teaching-learning process and be immensely helpful to the students.

In Aalo, 50 trainee teachers selected from all blocks of the district underwent a two-day long teachers' training programme on Introduction of Smart Class under Chief Minister's Adhunik Shiksha Abhiyan, organized at Gumin Kiin on June 12 and 13 last.

Stating that the introduction of digital classrooms will bring revolution in the education system in the district, West Siang DDSE, Tumto Lollen exhorted the teachers to be well equipped and trained with latest teaching technology for the interest of the students.

Resource Persons, Nawab Ahmed and Diptanu Chakraborty from EdCIL (India) Limited, along with in-charge of Smart Class Radek Romin, Coordinator Batel Rime, Master Trainer Gemar Karga, internal resource persons, Kardo Kamduk and Minjum Ete trained participants on operation and uses of the ICC unit (K-Yan).

Blatant violations of RTE Act alleged

DAPORIJO, Jun 14: Gross irregularity in implementation of various schemes under Right To Education (RTE) Act, including Mid-Day Meal (MDM) has been reported in Upper Subansiri district.

As per RTE Act, 2009, mid-day meal is supposed to be served to school children for a minimum period of 200 days in a year, which is not being followed in the schools of Upper Subansiri district, alleged the Students United Movement of All Arunachal (SUMAA), district unit.

The students' union claimed to have found serving mid-day meal hardly for six days in every school in the district in blatant violation of the Act. The SUMAA alleged misuse and misappropriation of funds meant for MDM by the authority/stakeholders.

Further, the SUMAA alleged of charging admission fee from the poor students by various schools in the district in violation of the guidelines under the "Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act.

While the scheme of providing free sanitary pads to the girl students, which was implemented in few schools during 2015, has reportedly disappeared since last year, there has been no free distribution of school uniforms to the students in government schools, which is a matter of serious concern, the students union stated in its six-point memorandum to the Deputy Director of School Education.

While many government teachers have been found engaged in various private coaching centres by neglecting their own duties, many are not staying in their respective places of posting. These irregular teachers are mostly seen in Daporijo town for their personal work(s), the Union claimed, and appealed to the government to immediately take necessary steps and measures to improve the education scenario of the district.

Is demonetisation move starting to backfire?

The worst fear may be coming true as country’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has expressed apprehensions that demonetisation may continue to result in slowing down of the economy, and adversely affect its own business. Several experts had warned that demonetisation might badly affect Indian economy. Government of India thrashed all warning and claimed the whole process as game changer. The long-term impact of this move on Indian economy and the banking sector is still uncertain. People of India strongly supported the move of government to discontinue Rs500 and Rs1, 000 banknotes from 9 November 2016 onwards with the hope that it will help to unearth black money.

Despite making all sort of toll claims, government has not been able to provide definite figure of how much black money has been recovered so far. Whenever experts and opposition parties raise this question, government beats around the bush and avoid giving direct reply. The effects of demonetisation are uncertain, which may adversely affect the business of India’s banking sector. It is expected that there will be increased competition among banks due to demonetisation. Increased competition may have an adverse effect on the net interest margin and other income and if the bank is unable to compete successfully, its profitability may decline. With each passing months it looks like demonetisation is starting to have negative impact on Indian economy. The time has arrived for government do some course correction before it’s too late.
